With a 322% premium, the Brazilian Federal Government collected US$ 2.250 billion in signing bonuses in the 16th Bidding Round — a record auction. Eleven bidding companies and consortia and ten winning consortia participated in the auction. In total were auctioned, 12 blocks from a total of 36 in post-salt areas in five sedimentary basins. The highlight is Chevron, which led five regions — all in the consortium — and Repsol, which won four.
“Exceeded all expectations. The record shows that the policy for the sector is on the right track and opens new prospects for the next,” said the Minister. The auction took place today, 10th, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The estimate is of four or three new platforms on the coast of the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The new areas will be responsible for producing between 400 and 500 thousand barrels per day and collecting about US$ 25 billion in taxes and government participation over the life of the projects.
Some environmental technical reports are being presented, warning some potential risks. These reports show that in the event of an accident on these platforms, there is no technology available today to ensure the necessary environmental protection.
The Brazilian Federal Government has scheduled two new auctions in November this year.
